When Aventon dropped this 700c drop bar adventure bike earlier this year without a price, we assumed that with its Chromoly steel construct with STI shifters and tyre clearance of 47mm, this complete bike would be priced around or over the £1000 mark. However, one thing that sets this entry level gravel bike apart is its exceptional value for money.
This brightly coloured beauty is just £749 which when compared to the similarly specced Genisis Croix de Fer 10 (priced at £1099) this is a lot of bike for its price tag. Aventon has created an ideal entry-level complete gravel grinder, based on a quality double-butted 4130 Chromoly frame, fitted with a rack and lug cage mounts - it has plenty of scope to be kitted out with further upgrades.
Not everyone can commit a vast sum of money to give bikepacking or gravel cycling a go, part of the joy of experiencing this new(ish) wave of bike riding is it's inexpensive, back to basics approach. Kicking against the tide of component obsessed roadies and embracing our surroundings at a pace that suits ourselves rather than keeping above a minimum mph group speed. Bikepacking is all about inclusivity, using what you have and not requiring a considerable amount of money to enjoy such a simple yet enjoyable way of riding. This is why we love the Kijote so much - it opens the door to adventure and all there is to offer on our doorstep.
